Although there are a number of items on the market that claim to do this, some of them contain dangerous chemicals that could damage your hair. Instead, you may want to try lightening your hair with natural products that you can find at home or at your local grocery store. Bear in mind, however, that bleach-free options will not have a drastic lightning effect. The end result would be subtle, with a warm tone to it.

There are many ways to lighten hair naturally, and here we’ll show you how to lighten hair without using any harmful chemicals such as hair dye, bleach etc.

Most experts will tell you that such a transition is impossible to achieve without Bleach. I can’t stand it, so listen to me gloat as I inform you that no Bleach was used in any of the procedures.

1. Lemon juice can be used as a lightener 

This approach is only successful on hair that has not been dyed. Lemon juice tends to be one of the most common non-bleach hair lightening methods. If you apply it to all of your hair, it will create a subtle all-over lightening effect, or subtle highlights if you only apply it to a few bits. 

  • To do this, you’ll need only pure lemon juice. While bottled lemon juice is fine, fresh-squeezed lemon juice is more potent. Lemon juice and water should be combined in equal sections. 
  • Fill a spray bottle halfway with the mixture and spray it on your hair. Spray until your hair is slightly wet. Alternatively, after your show, add the mixture to your wet hair.
  • The secret to this move, regardless of which choice you select, is to sit in the sun while the lemon juice is still in your hair. The sun’s UV rays are responsible for the lightening effect. Note that the heat from the sun does not react with the lemon juice, so sitting outside with a blow dryer will not work.
  • Only spend about 30-60 minutes in the heat. Also, make sure you apply sunscreen to any exposed skin.

Note that this approach can result in a very subtle lightening effect. To lighten your mood, try doing it once a week.

2. To lighten your hair, drink chamomile tea

Chamomile, like lemon juice, is a popular hair lightening ingredient. If your hair is already light, this will work better. It will have no effect on darker hair and is not recommended for color-treated hair. Your naturally blonde hair will have a slight golden tint and brightening effect after the treatment. 

  • To begin, make a strong cup of chamomile tea. You’ll need about 5 tea bags, which you’ll steep for about 30 minutes in three cups of hot water, or until the tea is cool enough to apply to your head. 
  • Pour the tea (minus 5 tablespoons) into a spray bottle after it has steeped and chilled.
  • Fill a bottle of your normal conditioner with the remaining 5 tablespoons.
  • After rinsing off the shampoo,’ apply your conditioner/tea mixture as a conditioner. Allow at least a few minutes for the conditioner to sit on your hair before rinsing it out.

3. If you want to lighten your hair, honey is a good choice

Honey is a wonderful substance to work with. Honey has antibacterial properties, so it can be used for a variety of medical purposes in addition to lightening your hair. Honey also contains trace amounts of hydrogen peroxide, which is responsible for hair lightening. You may want to skip this step if you don’t want to use hydrogen peroxide. 

  • In a cup of water, dissolve 1-2 tbsp raw honey (commercial, pasteurised honey will not work). 
  • Spread the honey/water mixture uniformly across your hair. Allow the mixture to sit for about an hour after applying it to your hair.
  • Regular Conditioner — Add 1-2 tablespoons of honey to your conditioner instead of the honey/water mixture. After that, use your conditioner as usual. 
  • Mix 13 cup raw honey with 14 cup conditioner to make a honey/conditioner mixture. Apply the honey/conditioner mixture to your hair after it has been wet.
  • Make sure the mixture is uniformly distributed throughout your hair; you may want to use a comb to do so. Go to bed with a shower cap (or plastic wrap). In the morning, wash the mixture off with your usual routine. 
  • Honey + Cinnamon + Olive Oil — Adding cinnamon to honey results in a warm blonde with reddish undertones, and olive oil moisturises the hair. 1 cup raw honey + 2 cups distilled water = 1 cup raw honey + 2 cups distilled water = 1 cup raw honey + 2 cups distilled water = 1 cup 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon olive oil Combine the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Wet your hair and then uniformly apply the mixture to it. Go to bed with your hair covered in a shower cap. In the morning, wash the mixture off with your usual routine.
  • Use 2 cups white vinegar instead of distilled water in the Honey, Cinnamon, and Olive Oil mixture. The rest of the procedure is identical.

4. Rhubarb can be used to make a lightening solution

Rhubarb can be bought at a grocery store or a farmer’s market, or you can cultivate it yourself in your garden. (Rhubarb spreads quickly in a garden and is often found growing wild in the wild.)

  • Prepare 14 cup rhubarb by chopping enough rhubarb. In a saucepan, combine the chopped rhubarb and 2 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a boil in the sauce pan on the stove.
  • Allow the mixture to cool before straining the liquid out of the sauce pan and into a bottle.
  • Apply the liquid to your hair and leave it on for a minimum of 10 minutes. The liquid should then be rinsed with water.

5.To lighten your hair, use olive oil

You should use olive oil on its own, in addition to mixing it with other ingredients. Olive oil is a great moisturiser in addition to being able to lighten your hair. 

6. Make your hair lighter by using baking soda

Baking soda can be used as a shampoo as well as a hair lightening agent. It will have a subtle effect, so repeat this process daily or weekly until your hair is lightened to the desired level. Although you can continue to use baking soda as your regular shampoo, keep in mind that your hair may lighten even more.

  • Mix about 14 to 13 cup baking soda with small amounts of water until it forms a paste.
  • Replace your normal shampoo with the paste and apply it all over your hair.
  • After rinsing off the baking soda paste, use your regular conditioner.

7. Apple cider vinegar can be used to make a lightening solution

Apple cider vinegar, like baking soda, can be used to clean and lighten your hair. After shampooing your hair, use apple cider vinegar as a rinse on a regular basis. Apple cider vinegar is excellent for removing all of the chemicals that have built up in your hair as a result of styling products. 

  • To 1 cup of water, add 14 cup apple cider vinegar.
  • After shampooing and conditioning your hair as usual, add the apple cider vinegar mixture to it.
  • Allow the mixture to sit on your hair for about 20 minutes before rinsing it out with water.

8. Cinnamon can be used to lighten your hair

Cinnamon can be used alone or in combination with other hair lightening ingredients. Cinnamon has the added benefit of smelling wonderful!

  • Combine 3-4 tablespoons of ground cinnamon with about the same amount of normal conditioner.
  • Apply the mixture uniformly to your hair. Make sure it’s evenly distributed throughout your hair with a comb.
  • Cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap and leave the mixture in overnight.
  • Shampoo and condition your hair as usual first thing in the morning.

9. If you want to lighten your hair, use salt

If you’ve ever spent an entire summer swimming in the ocean, you know how effective saltwater is at lightening your hair. Even if you don’t live near the ocean, you can lighten your hair at home with saltwater. 

  • 1 tblsp. salt + 5 tblsp. water Rinse your hair with the mixture and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly with cold water.
  • Alternately, make a paste with 12 cups of sea salt and a small amount of water. Apply the paste to your wet hair and leave it to dry in the sun. After you’ve been out in the sun, rinse your hair with water.

While the sun can cause your skin to burn and tan (i.e. darken), it can also cause your hair to lighten. Spending a lot of time outside in the sun is one of the easiest ways to lighten your hair. Always remember to protect your exposed skin with sunscreen and protective clothing to avoid sunburn.
